Teaching key signatures doesn't have to mean endless drills and memorization.
Instead of asking students to memorize isolated facts, Key 7 encourages them to discover how scales, key signatures, chords, and harmony all work together.
Key 7: The Creative Way to Teach Key Signatures
Help Students See the Patterns Behind Every Key Signature
Teaching key signatures doesn't have to mean endless drills and memorization.
Key 7 helps students recognize patterns, make meaningful connections, and confidently navigate all major keys using the Circle of Fifths (or, as I like to call it, the Circle of Keys).
Instead of asking students to memorize isolated facts, Key 7 encourages them to discover how scales, key signatures, chords, and harmony all work together.
With Key 7, students will:
✓ Master all 15 major key signatures
✓ Connect major keys with their relative minors
✓ Understand the Circle of Fifths through patterns—not memorization
✓ Build confidence with scales and key signatures
✓ Strengthen theory skills that support improvisation, composition, and arranging
Whether you're teaching private lessons, group classes, camps, or online students, Key 7 makes theory active, engaging, and memorable.
Is Key 7 Right for You?
Key 7 is designed for piano teachers who want students to understand—not simply memorize.
It's a perfect fit if your students:
• forget key signatures from week to week
• struggle with major scales
• confuse sharp and flat keys
• dread theory worksheets
• need hands-on learning experiences
• are beginning to improvise, compose, arrange, or play from chord symbols
If any of these sound familiar, Key 7 will quickly become one of your favorite teaching tools.
Why Key 7 Works
Many students can play pieces in different keys without really understanding why certain sharps or flats appear.
When key signatures become nothing more than something to memorize, students often struggle with scales, chords, harmony, improvisation, and music theory.
Key 7 changes that.
Using games, visual tools, movement, and creative activities, students begin recognizing relationships instead of isolated facts. They discover that music theory isn't about memorizing rules—it's about noticing patterns.
Those patterns build confidence, deepen understanding, and unlock creativity.

Why the Name "Key 7"?
The name Key 7 comes from the remarkable pattern found in the Circle of Fifths.
Each new sharp key adds just one note while keeping the previous sharps for a total of 7 sharps. Flat keys work the same way in reverse. Once students discover this elegant system, key signatures become far easier to understand and remember.
Plus, if a student knows that A major has three sharps, then, because of the lucky number 7, they know that Ab has 4 flats. 3 + 4 = 7.
Instead of memorizing 15 separate key signatures, they begin to recognize the clever patterns of 7 that connect them all.
