Level 2: Training for Champion Sight Readers
Level 2: Training for Champion Sight Readers
Sight reading is a skill that requires guidance and training along the way.
This digital escape room games includes questions that train readers to look for the important signs and symbols and patterns within a piece BEFORE playing it.
Instead of YOU asking all the questions, the game does it for you!
AND…it develops audiation, skills, too!
Welcome to the Level 2 Winter Games!
Gold medal sight-readers are players who can read through a piece for the first time and play with musicality and flow while making few errors.
Some people are born with amazing sight-reading skills. Most gold medalists must train to become top sight-readers.
They acquire these 3 essential habits or skills and practice them regularly
#1 They follow a set of priorities in this order as they play
Steady beat
Accurate rhythms
Correct pitches
Details like articulations, dynamics, artistry...
#2 They scope out a piece and look for the important elements BEFORE playing. They make sure to review all the signs and symbols and determine what parts look the same and which ones look different.
Meter/Time Signature
Key/Key Signature
Sections
Chord progressions
Patterns in rhythm
Patterns in melody
Patterns in accompaniment
#3 They imagine what the piece sound likes BEFORE it’s played it which is called audiation.
This digital escape room focuses on habits #2 and #3
BONUS: To prepare for this Level 1 round of "competition," a Quizlet flash card deck is provided with the escape room game!
What is a DIGITAL Escape Room?
Students work as teams or individually to solve puzzles and answer questions to a story based on intriguing themes. Their correct answers are the numbers or letters to crack the code which allows them to “escape” the room and move on to another room for more mysteries to solve and codes to unlock. If you like, set a time limit to unlock each room and give prizes to those who finish first.
Why use Escape Room games in your music lessons?
