Noodle Challenge Day 17
Borrow from Bach
“It’s easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.”
Noodle Info
I prefer to avoid using the word easy.
Apparently, Bach didn’t have a problem with it! From what we can tell, he managed to touch the right key at the right time about every time he sat down to compose.
As Western music stands on the shoulders of Bach’s genius, it seems fitting to borrow an idea or two from him.
Today, I invite you to borrow a pedal point technique from his beloved “Prelude in C.”
Pedal Point = a single bass note remains on the bottom while the chords change above it.
Psst…get out your recording app!
Your Challenge
As the left hand remains static, change chords in the right hand
Explore patterns using inverted, blocked, and broken chords.
Keep the beat steady or change it up with syncopation.
EXTRAS:
Explore chords to play over C other than the ones listed below.
Create a melody with the top pitch of each chord.
Always ask yourself: What if I?
