Noodle Challenge Day 16

Tune Up

Creativity takes courage.

Noodle Info

Instead of saying “I’m sorry” when something bad happens to someone, some cultures say, “Take courage.”

This has been my mantra for years.

I share it with you today because sometimes courage can be hard to come by, and that’s when you need to lean on others.

When it comes to creativity and your muse is missing, lean on handy tech tools to get the creative juices flowing.

The challenge below provides specific directions, or what I call boundaries. I give them to you because they will set you up for success in creating well-balanced phrases.

Psst…get out your recording app!

Your Challenge

Review the D Major 5-finger pattern or scale in your right hand.

Click on the Rhythm Randomizer button below and tap on “NEW RHYTHM" until you find one you like.

Listen to it and then clap along to the rhythm until it’s memorized.

Create Two Phrases:

  1. Question Phrase: Create a melody using pitches of the D Major within the rhythm pattern and end on A (the Dominant).

  2. Answer Phrase: Create a melody using the pitches of the D Major pattern you choose, using the same rhythm pattern and ending on D (the Tonic).

  3. Harmonize your melody with the I, IV, and V chords in D: D, G, and A Major.

EXTRA:

  1. Select the SETTINGS icon of the Rhythm Generator to your liking (more note values, different time signature) and create more question and answer phrases.

  2. Use a favorite chord progression to harmonize the melody.

  3. Repeat the activity in D minor.

  4. Repeat the activity in a new key.

Always ask yourself: What if I?
