If you’ve never played the blues before, this is a nifty hack!

You only need one hand, five black keys, and one white key. Oh, and some groove.

Your Challenge

Listen to the backing track made in iReal Pro. Download it if you like.

What is your favorite breakfast?

  • Waffles with Syrup?

  • Bacon and Eggs?

  • Avocado Toast?

After determining your favorite breakfast cuisine, chant the words with the rhythm track until they fall naturally into the groove.

Play this rhythm on ANY black key, then try more black keys until you develop a short melodic phrase as you play along with the track.

Add in the A natural (white key) to kick up your blues a notch.

Keep playing with the track until it’s time to grab some breakfast.

EXTRAS:

  1. Play the single bass note in the left hand as you play your melody in the right hand.

  2. Play the chords in the left hand as you play your melody in the right hand.
