Raising or Teaching a Teen?
Thanks to a wonderful middle school principal, Mr. Mark DeNooy, some years ago I was directed to a book, The Primal Teen, that deserves a yearly read. As a parent and as a teacher, I find the information invaluable, consoling, stimulating and a source for how to respond to the "mysterious" teenagers that live in my home and sit on my piano bench from year to year.
A video of an interview with the author, Dr. Barbara Strauch, will give you an idea of what her research found, but I still recommend reading the book. You won't be sorry. Perhaps it won't "fix" your teenager, but at least you'll be prepared for behaviors that might appear and be reassured they are perfectly normal, even if they seem completely absurd.
