321 Challenge
321 Challenge
Explore and create with hip harmonies and pop-inspired patterns that ignite imaginations.
Plenty of insightful instructions
Although the primary reason for developing such a resource is to encourage players of all levels to develop creative skills at the keys, there’s many “hidden agendas” found in these pages.
Clear explanation of why this works
First and foremost, the 321 Challenge unveils the “magic” behind strong chord progressions. Harmony is difficult to teach and as a teacher of composition and a judge of composition competitions, the ONE element that budding composers often “suffer from” is a lack of harmonic understanding—how chords fit together.
Other takeaways from the resource? Players are asked to sight read, transpose, recognize patterns, listen, discern, borrow patterns and progressions from those who have made a pop hit or two, apply theoretical concepts and then…use all this know-how to find an original voice at the keys.
It’s a “reality show” of theory and imagination in action while getting under the hood of pop hits.
The 321 Challenge is intended for anyone—pianists, teachers, students.
Set boundaries, explore options and unlock creativity!
