Bittersweet

We’re built to live simultaneously in love and loss, bitter and sweet.

Noodle Info

When I’m looking for a student-saver piece, the winner is usually in a minor key.

So what is it about us humans and our affection for music in minor keys?

I won’t attempt to answer that question here, but I will suggest a chord progression that checks the “minor” box. Every chord is minor!

I grabbed the one below from AutoChords, which generates common chord progressions in major AND minor in EVERY key!

Psst…get out your recording app!

Your Challenge

Explore at least three ways to play this progression, borrowing patterns from

  • The Cut and Paste Patterns

  • Current repertoire

  • What comes to your muse.

Hack: Keep G in your right-hand pinky while playing the chord changes beneath. Keeping one element static can craft tension and release.

EXTRA: Practice reading from Nashville Numbers and transpose this progression to two new keys.

Always ask yourself: What if I?
