Noodle Info

Congratulations, you made it to the finish line!

(BTW…the noodles will be available through June 2. Learn how to access the noodles through August HERE.)

Even if you missed a day or two, fell behind, and struggled to keep up, I hope this improvisation marathon has enlightened and encouraged you at the piano.

Some of you have let us witness your improv journey on Facebook and Instagram. From what I can tell, you weren’t just having fun as your creativity took flight; you were feeling fun.

Your task now is to heed the nudge to noodle—don’t let this new habit slip away!

My hope is that noodling will not only become a habit but a ritual.

When you get a chance listen to this podcast about how rituals have the potential to enrich our lives beyond automatic habits: Dr. Michael Norton: Are Tiny Rituals the Secret Ingredient to a Meaningful Day? The Chase Jarvis LIVE Show

Your Challenge

Yep, one more round of playing by ear. Perhaps not your favorite task but this skill of playing what you hear and not what you see will serve you well.

From my own experience, the more you rely on your ears instead of your eyes and aim for “close enough” over complete accuracy, the more confident you become in your improvisation.

Listen for the bottom pitches or bass line—this should sound familiar.

Attempt to imitate the groove and melodic shape.

Enjoy your unique “variation” and be good with “close enough!”

EXTRA:

Review past noodles and choose a favorite to revisit as a reward for making it through your first ever 30-Day Noodle Challenge.

Always ask yourself: What if I?
