Noodle Challenge Day 20
PBE & J
“We have two ears and one tongue
so that we would listen more and talk less.”
Noodle Info
Congratulations! You’ve made it to day TWENTY!
Pat yourself on the back, eat some ramen, and then perk up your ears.
Today, your ears get to do the work, just like on day TEN.
Your refresher:
PBE = means that you must listen to the audio recording and attempt to PLAY it BY EAR.
J = means that once you’ve got the pattern, celebrate and JAM on it.
The good news?
What you listen to today is an expanded variation of what you played by ear on day ten.
If you took notes, get them out now!
TIP: Playing by ear is like a search and rescue mission. Keep hunting and poking around until you find the right pitch. It takes patience and perseverance.
Your Challenge
Listen to the audio recording below several times and then…
Listen for the bass line and the chord changes. Play along until you can match the bass line and identify the key.
Listen for the top pitches of the right hand and play just the single pitch.
With this information, attempt to determine the chords and melody played above the bass line.
You may wish to jot down notes and the chord symbols as a visual reminder.
EXTRA: Jam out on this chord progression! Try to add a groove or vary the melody.
Always ask yourself: What if I?
