Noodle Challenge Day 10

PBE & J

I am learning every day to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not terrify me.

Noodle Info

Congratulations! You’ve made it to day TEN!

Pat yourself on the back, eat some pasta, and then perk up your ears.

Today, your listening skills will do the work. If this idea petrifies you, read the quote above several times.

And promise, you won’t quit on me just because I’m asking you to use your ears. I did not learn to play by ear until an adult. This skill has significantly improved my noodling skills. It can do the same for yours.

PBE = means that you must listen to the audio recording and attempt to PLAY it BY EAR.

J = means that once you’re close to the same pattern, celebrate and JAM on it.

TIP#1: Playing by ear is a search and rescue method. Keep hunting and poking around until you find the right pitch. It takes patience and perseverance.

TIP#2: What you “rescue” may not be exactly what you heard, and that’s OKAY! It means you just created something new.

Your Challenge

Listen to the audio recording below several times, and then

  1. Listen for the bass line and the chord changes. Play along until you can match the bass line and identify the key.

  2. Listen for the top pitch of the right hand and play just the single pitch.

  3. With this information, attempt to determine the chords played above the bass line.

  4. You may wish to jot down notes and the chord symbols as a visual reminder.

EXTRA: Jam out on this chord progression! Try to add a groove or a melody.

Always ask yourself: What if I?
