July Quote of the Month

"There is nothing new under the sun."

-King Solomon, Ecclesiastes 1:9

It was quite clear that this must be my quote of the month after some recent events:

1) The beginning of "Creative Corner" at my blog featuring ideas from guest artists, colleagues--creators...

2) A good friend and colleague reminded me of her epiphany of what creativity is (in a blog written a couple of years ago). Her definition:

"Creativity is not creating something new.

Creativity is recombining elements that already exist in a new way.

It finally made sense to me what Ecclesiastes says: “There is nothing new under the sun.”

3) Picked up a new favorite book, Steal Like an Artist and the author states:

"What a good artist understands is that nothing comes from nowhere.

All creative work builds on what came before.

Nothing is completely original.

It's right there in the Bible: "There is nothing new under the sun."
